‘Do what you love and love what you do… the rest are excuses!’
This is the life that I have been dreaming about. However, I always give myself excuses for not being able to do what I love. I believe most of you are about the same as me.
As a college student, I have a super duper hectic college life. I spend most of my time dealing with my academic studies, building up my leadership skills and doing research. Due to the time constraint, I do not have time to sit down and enjoy a fabulous meal. “I love to cook but I don’t have time…” This is what I usually tell my friends whenever they invite me to cook with them.
Routinely, I sit in front of my laptop with a textbook on my lap and a hand grabbing crackers during my lunchtime. My desk will never run out of snacks, cookies and meal bars. This is how I stop my hunger! I know this is unhealthy but I have no choice. (Excuse again)
One day, my parents called me and asked me about my college life. After talking to them, I realized that the thing they were most concerned about was WHAT I EAT. I felt so guilty after all of not taking care of my eating habits. From that day onwards, I decided to make a change to my ‘unhealthy’ lifestyle.
First off, I purchased a hotpot and a rice cooker. These are affordable and multipurpose INVENTIONS that can shorten my cooking time, yet give me good and healthy food. Usually, I use hotpot to cook pasta, noodles, steamed tofu and steamed vegetables. As for rice cooker, I use it to cook rice, porridge, steamed egg and soup. As you can see, I have more variety of healthy food now. This in turn has given me a passion in cooking because it is a low cost (time consumption), but high return (nutrients) activity. I’m glad that the phone call has led me towards my dream life.
So, all the busy people out there, you should know that time is not a good excuse to stop you from achieving your good life – a life that you can do what you love and love what you do. What you need now is to tell yourself, “DON’T WAIT, JUST DO IT!”
