What You Should be Doing This Valentine’s Day

When it comes to giving gifts, there are really only two things you can give – time and money.  When I say money, I mean actually material gifts – things that can only be bought with money.  Whether it is things that last like diamonds or consumables like chocolates, most gifts fall into this category.  A gift of time however, means spending time with someone.  I also submit that time is money.  Therefore, a gift of time is more costly and more valuable overall.  I am not however saying not to buy anything.  Ultimately the most effective gift is something material paired with memories.  I’ve already made a post about Valentine’s Day gift ideas, so I’ll go into what you should be doing now.

Recall a prior memory – Do you recall any shared experiences especially strongly?  Maybe it’s where the two of you met.  Or maybe it’s where the two of you had an especially good vacation.  The point is you go where both of you have lots of memories, and relieve part of them.  It’s really easy to do something really romantic this way.

Do something the two of you always wanted to – With every person and every couple, there’s thing s that they want to try but haven’t had a chance.  This Valentine’s Day, do one of those things!  Complete one of your dreams or goals, and help someone else fulfill one of theirs’.  It’s sure to make a very memorable experience.

Do something simple.  Cook a meal.  Bake a cake.  Bake cookies or muffins, even.  Just get some recipes online, the hardware (read: cooking tools) you need, gather the ingredients, and you’re good to go.  An easy meal is soup, salad, and sandwich.  But if you really want to impress, cook some steaks, have a salad, and make some kind of dessert like a small cake.  You can also bake a loaf of bread with spices to match the meal.  It’ll be sure to impress.

Whatever you do, most importantly you must spend time together.  Forge some new memories, which will last.  Be sure to take pictures, since they can make great gifts later.  And most importantly remember that this isn’t just tips for guys – girls should try and do this too, instead of just accepting a gift.  Mutual giving is always much stronger than one-sided giving.  There’s less than a week now, so start making your plans today!  Remember, something memorable doesn’t have to be expensive.
