How can we make sure that our children have a good life?

Well, most of us have heard of the phrase “I want my children to have a better life than I did.” You have probably said the same thing too. But wait a minute; what does this mean? A better life can mean very different things. For example, if you came from a family where your parents were always fighting and quarrelling about everything and nothing, you may think of your children’s good life as a perfect home with no quarrels. On the other hand, if your family was always peaceful but you always lacked food, cloths, and shelter, then you may think that what your children need most is food. Depending on your upbringing, you may come to believe that there is no better heritage for your children except education. Examples are many as the different personalities and experiences we have. But what are some of the things that constitute giving your child a good life?

1. Character

This is a pretty brought broad subject, but truth be said. There are very few things that you can give to your children apart from character. The character that you give your children is an inheritance that can never be stolen or lost through miscalculated business decisions. Your children do not need character to succeed in life. No. However, success without character will definitely eat up your child. We all know the stories of the many celebrities who have made so much money, gained fame, and afforded much of what we yearn for, yet, they live lives that we would not admire. Why? Because their character sucks and the little character they had could not support the weight of “success”

2. Love

Anybody there who wants some love? Well, if you don’t, then your kid definitely does. You know, there is this verse that says “to those who are pure, everything is pure, while to those who are defiled, everything is defiled.” I am not saying that you are definitely defiled. Nope. But this is the thing, as we grow up, we have come to learn a couple of “dirty” things in life and one of the lessons we have learnt is that money is everything. We therefore don’t feel that our children will find our love sweet unless it is filled with money and gifts – so what do we do? We end up spending all our time looking for money to come and soothe an empty life.

3. Education

Education is an important thing in life. Of course, there are so many people who can neither read nor write, but are satisfied with their lives compared to the university professors who drown their heads in dope and alcohol. However, education widens your mind and makes you think of things from a totally different perspective that you would otherwise not have seen. This is also a good gift to give to your children

After these three are dealt with, you can then give them whatever you want. Of course, there are other things that must come together with these three – such things as food cloths and shelter. But the rest must not compete with these three as they cannot substitute them
