So some of you might be envious of the find the good life blog. It’s OK, you don’t have to say it, I can see it in your eyes. A blog can be fun or it can be your worst nemesis, depending on if you truly have something to say. Even if you think that you don’t really have anything to say, you can still run a blog site. Just be prepared to do some research and commit to a new relationship. That’s right, your blog is going to be your new significant other.
First of all, a blog is something that people like to visit if you have anything worthy of reading. It doesn’t have to be about yourself or even a person. You can run a blog and talk about the economy, sports, or could just run a site that provides useful tips on how to do things. There are enough people out there on the grand old internet that will be interested in what you have to say no matter what it is. The biggest key to a blog is return visitors. It’s hard to get people to come to your blog. Just think about it, there are probably around a billion blogs out there. So when you do rope a visitor in, you want to keep them. The best way to do that is if they have a reason to keep coming back. So keep your blog current and consistent. It is best to have something new every day, this will keep people excited about your blog (including the search engines) and get your blog on the road to the good life.
If you start your blog and find you have nothing to say, don’t stop, just research. Do a Google search for topics that your blog is about. It doesn’t matter if someone else is already running that post or not. Hell, you can even post about your reaction to what they are posting about (which can often lead to a good conversation with the other blogger). I have found that when I am writing a blog about family or friends a good way to get motivated is picking up a picture. Pick any picture, at total random. If you have to take a picture of the good life blog. Then write about that picture. you could write about what you were feeling in the picture, or what you were feeling when you took the picture, or how crappy the picture turned out. You will be amazed about how anything can inspire you. Even if it means switching subjects for a minute at least you will have new content. Most of the time when someone decides not to do their blog anymore it’s because they have run out of creative ideas for their topic. It’s OK to change it up every once in a while, it could add some spice to your blog.
Besides the obvious reason for new content, there is the not so obvious. The search engine credit. Search engines like Google, MSN, Yahoo, all like fresh content. In fact the more consistent you are the more times they will visit them. The more times a search engine visits your site the better ranking you will get. Ranking is where you are on the results page. If you do change subjects around, try to keep the titles somewhat related to the overall site. This is another thing that search engines look for. The biggest thing to remember though, don’t write for search engines, write for your audience. If your blog is just full of keywords and hard to read junk for the search engines then your visitors will get tired of it and quit coming back.
Remember this blog is supposed to be fun for you, try not to sweat it. How are you going to be living the good life if your stuck at home trying to think of things to write about. In fact, when you are in the writing mood, just write more. It’s ok to write 4-5 posts and save them. Try it, you may find that an easier route.
