A Good Life Is Simple

All of us aspire to have a good life. To each one of us good life is defined differently. For some of us it is a life of luxury with all possible amenities and no worries about credit card payments. For some it could mean owning expensive clothes and cars. Is that really a good life? Would you be happy and content with it? In the end a good life would be one where we feel happy and content about the way we have led our lives.

For once try to sit down in a comfy sofa and do nothing (near impossible feat). Think back to the life spent. Go down memory lanes, as back as you can. What are the things that bring a smile on your face? Which of these memories do you remember fondly with affection? How many of those experiences can be bought by money or credit cards?

Not many I guess!!

It is the simplicity of things that brings about happiness. Happiness is what makes our lives a good life. Your child will love the idea of spending half an hour cuddled with you rather than those expensive toys you buy for her. A bed time story is more precious than those designer clothes. In the end it is the simple things that make life good.

Most of our fond memories include times like when  we baked along with mom, spent that extra half an hour chatting about nothing, those long walks with a parent, an idle evening by the lake with someone we cared for, those night walks with your partner, the list is endless. Most of our happy times are times of simplicity when money and material things didn’t corrupt the pure happiness.

De-clutter your life, go a little slow. Yes money is an evil necessity and you need enough to go around, to be able to meet your bills, save for colleges, and tide over emergencies and other fundamentals of life. But do we need that extra TV at home; the very expensive holiday; those designer shoes and clothes? In all probability in your rush to get them you have been charging your card left and right. So once you are done with the high of having bought these happiness you now need to brood about the interest and the payments that need to be made. Was it really worth it?

A good life doesn’t have to mean expensive and complex happiness bought all the way. A good life translates from simple things that bring joy to us; joy that lasts, unlike the happiness which comes and goes like a high. Good life is the selfless love we feel for our parents, partner or kids.

Move away from the rat race. Relax and be yourself. Look for and find those simple joys all over again. Lead a simple life, a good life, uncluttered with too many expensive happiness but full of the simple joys that life gives us.
