Are You Living The Good Life?

Have you ever asked yourself this question? What answers have come to your mind? Do you really think that you are living the good life? I have asked my self this question quite a few times and the answer has varied from time to time.

I have realized that the exact definition of good life might change with the different stages in our lives, but some basics remain the same. All of us visualize happiness as part of the good life. It is one of the major things we aspire for.

Of course happiness may mean different things to different people at different times. But we are all looking for happiness in some form or the other. Infact something that could make us happy a few years back may not seem that important today. Have you realized that this is true mostly for material happiness and not true happiness?

The factors attributing to true happiness remain more or less the same. They normally concern our immediate families and friends. The time we spend with them and the joy we share with them. True happiness is not materialistic in nature.

Even as we look back in time, most things that bring a smile to our lips have little or no materialistic contribution. Most so called happy moments that are concerned with money have not lasted long. The happiness that can be bought will give us only that instant gratification and the feeling of bliss does not last long.

Other things that keep us going are faith in ourselves and hope that we will do better and achieve the good life. Hope and faith are like keystones to a good life. They keep us going through the worst possible phases in our lives and egg us on to a better tomorrow and a better life. They are our survival instincts which help us to continue on to a good life.

Another important aspect of a good life is health, not just physical but also mental. Mental health is our positive thinking and attitude. We are what we think. It is important to keep your thoughts positive, it reflects in our actions and general health. A positive attitude gives the energy to met anything headlong and still come out strong from it. It gives us the mental strength to face the odds of life.

Physical health is equally important. When you are not physically fit or suffering from a disease or chronic condition, you can’t be expected to say that it is the good life. Your physical condition can affect your mental health too. but if you are mentally strong you will be able to accept this better. If you are not ill but just physically unfit, it will go a long way if you make yourself fitter. It is truly said that health is wealth.

I personally feel that humor plays a big role in our lives. It does not mean that you read or see or hear humor and enjoy it. It simply means that you see humor in the everyday happenings around you. It is the ability to be able to laugh at you, to be able to see humor in the grimmest of situations. If you can find these strengths within you will be able to live the good life.
