Basic Steps to a Good Life

The good life is not a mirage. It is not an unaccomplished goal. It is definitely not unattainable. If your objective is, to lead a good life, you can follow some simple steps. Primarily; a good life is one where you are at peace with everything that you have and everything that you don’t. It doesn’t mean a gregarious search for what you don’t have and neither does it mean that you should forego everything and live like a sage. A good life denotes the kind of existence where you can clearly identify what are the things that you absolutely need for survival, vis-à-vis the things that enhance your life. One cannot be confused with the other.

The primarily goal becomes easy to attain if; your vision is clearly defined. You can start by knowing exactly what you want. If the ends are: to be rich, famous, popular, loved etc. then, the means needs to be clearly defined. You should know exactly which approach will lead you to what you want. One cannot possibly hit a target they can’t see.

Once you have done this, visualize the goal just as you have seen it. This helps you to picture reality at tandem with desires and needs. Take a mental snap shot of how you see the path and what the end result will look like. It helps to visualize the whole piece in your mind. When we say visualize, we mean that you experience all the high’s and low’s that come with it. Spend some time every day doing this, because it will help you to get motivated about your higher goals in life.

While you are at it, remember that this may not be as easy as cakewalk and when the dreams become reality, there are going to be several roadblocks-some stimulated by the world, and some stimulated within. It is easy to be disoriented and take the easy way out; but remember that, a changed course won’t be the path to the good life that you have imagined for yourself. Brace yourself against the odds and while you prepare for the best, expect the worse.

It is easy to toughen up one, when you overlook inconsequential things like how you look or feel all the time. Don’t get too caught up in the moment and learn to look at the big picture. This closely ties in with the logic of not stressing yourself out on small failures. You’ll see much later how small failures can be the stepping stones to success, but only if you learn the lessons from those failures.

Don’t overate or berate yourself too much. Don’t take too much credit for what goes right but pat yourself on the back for a good start. Similarly, if things don’t take the right turn, then don’t over criticize yourself. Always remember that you are who you think you are. This self perception should be kept untainted of what the world thinks about you.

If you can follow these basic steps to a good life then, you will definitely find the contentment and peace that you have always been looking for. Before you look outside, look within.
