In this rush and worry world of ours, we tend to get caught up in the daily grind of having to reach deadlines on time, having to earn money, and having to keep up with expenses. It all makes up for a very stressful mixture of overworking and becoming unhealthy. Sometimes it gets more difficult to deal with things when you are surrounded by people who constantly demand things from you. Even your family, even if they are around you and you love them, sometimes the mere sight of them will make your mind wander and remember certain obligations you have to keep. This is why finding time to oneself is vital in collecting one’s nerves. It is important for you to learn how to spend quality time alone for a good life and peace of mind.
More often than not, people tend to get too used to spending time with others and making others the focus of their energy. I may want to always be with my family because I want to make sure they are getting what they need and that they are safe. I may want to be around coworkers so that I get work done quicker because they are right there for me to clarify things with them. Because we get so used to people being around us, we forget what we are like when we are alone. The moment we are alone, we start to feel discomfort of not being able to do something for someone other than ourselves.
This is why finding moments to be alone is essential in maintaining a healthy mind and stress free body. Pick one day in the week where you will spend 6 hours of it by yourself. Get away from the kids and family and take a walk in the woods, or lie down at the beach to read a book. Without the noise of people, television, traffic, and crowds your mind will clear and your body will relax.
If there is no place near you to get your time alone, tell your family to let you sleep in or stay in bed for a few hours where you can catch up on reading, writing, or even meditation and contemplation. Tell your family how important it is for you to have this time for yourself. In fact, if you have a spouse, allow them to also have their own alone time to enjoy.
There are some people who find peace and quiet in taking long drives into the country to just enjoy the air and empty roads. Some may even go biking in the woods or deserted area for the same reason. Even swimming laps, taking a break in the sauna, or playing a golf game by yourself will help you have your alone time while you stretch and exercise your body while giving your mind a much needed break.
No matter what activity you choose, make sure that you do it alone. This is why it is called alone time, so that you can take time to recollect pleasant memories, clear your mind of worries, and even make plans for the future that will be more positive once you achieve rest and relaxation. Finding alone time is something that every person shouldn’t do without. Being alone will remind each of us about how significant we are as we take a step back and see ourselves as individuals again.
