In many countries the residents have learned to live with Mother Nature and take whatever she has to hand out to them. In many cases it can be a thing of beauty but there are those instances where she hands out some devastating disasters. It can range from tornadoes, to volcanic eruptions to forest fires. They all have a direct impact on the population where they are occurring.
Many individuals in these natural disaster regions have learned to accept the challenges that nature gives. There are many individuals that have survived not one tornado for example but perhaps two or more. One may ask why in the world would anyone remain in the same region or rebuild there for that matter. Simply because its their home. They have come to accept that the good outweighs the bad and they are prepared to take the consequences of living in a potentially prone natural disaster area.
For many that are unprepared for a natural tragedy and are suddenly hit with one it is devastating in many ways. First there is the shock that it has happened then the horror of the havoc that it has created. Perhaps the total destruction of their home and area as the result of a tornado has occurred. Or they have to evacuate their homes because of looming forest fires. Then in the end literally standing and watching their beloved homes go up in flames.
Although at the time of the disaster it would seem that life will never be good again, it must be remembered that humans are resilient and have learned since the beginning of time to not give in to the perils of nature. It may be at the time nothing can be done to prevent it, but there is much that can be done to prevent the damage from being permanent. This of course without having to face the tragedy of the loss of human life.
Possessions no matter how precious can be replaced, life cannot. So the best approach is first to be thankful for what did not happen. Then the next step is to make the decisions as to where to go from here. So you rebuild or move on? Only the individual can make that decision as it is a personal one. If one decides to rebuild though and they are in a disaster prone area it must be done with the acceptance of the possibility of a repeat occurrence.
IThe decision to move on to a safer location should not bring any sense of being beaten or giving up. In many circumstances this is a wise move. Its important that you immediately find out and take advantage of all the support services that are in place to help you through this time.
It basically comes down to making the best out of a very bad situation. With the determination and the will to rise above this then it means that you will soon learn how to have a good life after a natural tragedy.
